What can your new domain name extension be?

This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

New domain extensions have been popping up by the dozen over the last few years. What’s a domain extension? It’s the suffix portion of your website address. (Think .com, .net, .org)

We wanted to show you a few of the newer extensions, because they might make some interesting options for your organization:

.news
.center
.clinic
.family
.care
Our personal favorite, especially for donor pages, is .life!
City abbreviations are also available, in many cases, like .nyc

These new URL extensions are a great opportunity for at least 2 reasons:

  1. If you want an Exact Match Domain name, you can now get it using one of these new domain extensions. For example, we now own "Heartbeat" and "HBI" as domain names – www.Heartbeat.news, and www.HBI.life
  2. Abbreviated (aka short) URLs are highly sought after because they are a good mnemonic, and they are easy to type! This makes them very valuable and useful, and now you have a great chance to grab a good one.

If you have been looking for the chance to grab your center name, or an abbreviation, as a domain name, this is a great chance to do it. We suggest you move fast though–Domain name ‘investors’ are registering new names by the hundreds every day.

If you are an Extend Customer, we’d be happy to register a new domain name for you, and point it to your web-site. The cost is as little as $20.00. Just let us know what domain name you’d like, in writing, and we’ll try and make it happen for you!

Another interesting development: Custom Suffixes!

You’re going to see lots of custom extensions popping up soon, and some already have - like Gucci, the city of New York, .aol, .sky and Guardian (.grd).  Most of these new extensions will be from very large companies, because the fee starts at $235,000:  The process is also time-consuming and holds no guarantees.

Online technology is changing all the time! We have several tech-savvy staff-members who like to stay informed, and we’ll continue passing information along when we find something potentially helpful to your cause.

The new extensions provide interesting options for online marketing. We’ve listed a few ideas, maybe the most obvious ones. Let us know what you think of these new extensions, and how you might use these tools to advance your cause online.
